Gloria Joan Hubbell

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother Gloria Hubbell on Monday September 22, 2025, after her long battle with cancer. Born December 2, 1946, in Victoria British Columbia, Gloria was the sixth of eight children to Harvey and Carrie Smith. She had four brothers and three sisters. In 1969 Gloria moved to Edmonton Alberta with her husband Robin Hubbell where she started her own family. They moved to Sudbury Ontario briefly in 1971 where they had their second child before ending up in Calgary to set up home base.

Gloria helped run a successful temperature control company with her husband of 46 years before his passing in 2013. Gloria was highly competitive and often liked to have a wager of some sort on the line. She came from a racing family who had the need for speed. In her younger years she participated in a few of her own races and enjoyed some success. Gloria’s hobbies included playing games like blackjack, crib and bowling and of course could not resist having action no matter who she was competing with at any of those events. In 2002 Gloria and Rob built a nice second home up in Glenifer lakes where they enjoyed many weekend getaways. Weekends included boating, golfing, and fire pit drinks.

Gloria was a very social person and had many friends and family. she had a knack for meeting new and interesting characters everywhere she went. Halloween was her favourite time of year as she liked dressing up and having fun with her friends. Gloria was a loving wife caring mother and true friend to many. Gloria battled cancer for the last year of her life, and she did it with grace and dignity. She will be dearly missed.

Gloria is predeceased by her parents Harvey and Carrie Smith; brothers Roy and Allan Smith; sisters Grace and Joyce; mother-in-law Rudie Hubbell; sister-in-law Judy; brother-in-law Doug Mccoll; and her husband Robin Hubbell.

Gloria is survived by her brothers Norm (Carol) and Jack (Shirley); sister Eileen Sallis ( Bob ); sister in laws Diana Smith ,Sonya Smith , and Cathy Hubbell; brother in laws Cougar and Jim ( Linda) Hubbell and her sons Russ and Greg (Robyn); and grand kids Sam Jordan and Seth.

The family would like to thank the Calgary Palliative care team who provided outstanding compassion and care helping mom along her journey. Anna and Judy were very helpful in mom’s wishes to pass peacefully in the comfort of her own home.
