Geraldine (Gerry) Mary Cabel

Passed away on March 14, 2024 at the age of 91 at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

Gerry was born October 19, 1932 in the Duhamel district, the eldest of 4 children born to Ernest and Adeline Humbke. She grew up on the farm, finished schooling in the district, married and started her family. She raised her family in the Drayton Valley area, and as they grew, worked as a bookkeeper at Sekura Auctions and Anderson Sand & Gravel. She moved with her husband Roy to Oliver, BC in 1988 where she spent the next 30 years golfing, teaching line dancing and gathering more lifelong friends. After the passing of her husband she resided in Oliver until 2018 when she moved back to Alberta to live with her daughter in Calgary.

Gerry will be remembered as a loving and proud mother and a wonderful friend to all she met. She will be missed by her sister Donna Deugau and brother Denton (Teri) Humbke. Her legacy and the memories of her life will carry on through her son Terry (Rusty) Sharkey, daughter Cindy Gard, son John (Kirstin) Sharkey, son Doug (Stacy) Cabel, son Denny (Michelle) Cabel, son-in-law Gerrit DeVries as well as fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Gerry was sadly predeceased by her beautiful and spirited granddaughter Danielle, her husband Roy, her loving daughter Dixie, her precious son Tom, and sweet daughter-in-law Cindy.

A family gathering will be held later this spring in Oliver, BC.

I’m so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh or sing a song. Seems we just get started, and before you know it comes the time we have to say so long.
