It is with deep sadness that the family of Fred Sawatzky announces his passing on May 23, 2020 at the age of 65. Fred was born to Mary (Goertzen) and Jacob Sawatzky on a snowy Easter Sunday in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on April 10, 1955. Tisdale is where he started his family and then decided in late 1990 to move to Calgary. He had different jobs in his younger years, but for over 40 years he worked for Ford Motor Company as a Parts Specialist.
Fred was gentle, kind and quiet in a crowd but he was always listening and smiling. He was an avid reader who loved to travel, especially to Maui, where he enjoyed sitting on the beach with family and friends, whale and turtle watching. Fred was also a bonafide record nerd, he enjoyed listening and tinkering with all things records. He especially loved the thrill of finding a good record at a goodwill or swap meet. He would always tell his kids; “I’m busy spending your inheritance”. Fred always kept an eye out for a good deal on vintage cameras and old film as well. He loved to photograph his grandbabies with all his different types of cameras. Fred enjoyed keeping up to date with new technology and, consequently, having the bragging rights to show his kids a thing or two!
Fred is survived by his daughter Jaime, her husband Colin and his granddaughter Mya; his son Jason, his wife Kendra, his grandson Gibson and his granddaughter Miley. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Rosedale Hospice.
A toast to Fred will happen at a later date.
I don't believe that grief passes away. It has its time and place forever. More time is added to it; it becomes a story within a story. But grief and griever alike endure.” ~Wendell Berry
