Florence Winnifred Symons

It is with great sadness that we announce that Florence Symons, affectionately known as Flo, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 61 years young.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Flo lived life on her own terms, never backing down from a challenge or apologizing for being herself. Her unwavering stubbornness and unrelenting spirit inspired both admiration and amusement in those who knew her. She believed that hard work and integrity were all you needed to succeed in life, and she passed those values down to both of her children.

Flo took many paths in her career, but she found her true passion when she opened Calgary Costume. She successfully ran the business for several years, earning a reputation as a fair but stern businesswoman who always sent you on your way with the perfect costume and a laugh.

Flo loved flowers and took great pride in her garden. She was also an avid hockey fan. She enjoyed bingo nights, trips to the casino and all the big wins she got there. She always looked forward to the holidays and the family time that came with them. More than anything, Flo always wanted to be a grandmother. Her grandsons were the light of her life in the years that she got to spend with them.

Flo leaves behind her devoted husband Greg, children Jay (Vanessa) and Pam (Jarrett), sisters Margie and Cay, brother-in-Law Grant (Joanne), grandchildren Oliver and Noah; as well as her nieces, nephews and fur-grandchildren Nitro, Price and Kernel.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Clarence, her brother and best friend Bob and her faithful companion, Bailey. We will love and miss Flo forever, but we know that Bob and Bailey were with her when she passed and that they’re enjoying treats and bingo together now. Gone but never forgotten.

We would like to pass along our deep gratitude to The Salvation Army Agapé Hospice for the care and comfort they provided to Flo in her final days.
