She was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1935 to Iréna and Lörinc and grew up in central Budapest. In 1957, amid the uncertainty of political unrest, she set out on a bold journey to Canada, carrying with her a spirit for new beginnings and hope for the future. Along her way she met her husband, George, and together they settled in Calgary, Alberta where they shared a full and happy life. Together, they enjoyed spending time at their property at Spur Valley BC, gardening, classical concerts, and the ballet.
Eva will always be fondly remembered for her compassion and kind spirit, always giving to those in need and her devotion to her church and community. She loved music, time spent in nature, and her happiest moments were spent hosting family dinners, nourishing everyone with her generous heart and delicious cooking. We’ll never forget her boisterous laugh and the tales of her adventures coming to Canada. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Eva was predeceased by her brother Lörinc, her husband George, and her daughter Gabriella. She is survived by her son George T. Ries, her five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Brenda Strafford Foundation Wentworth Manor - Calgary for their kindness and care of Eva.
A church mass followed by a celebration of life will be held in Calgary at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Eva’s honour to a charity of your choice.
