Elmer Bulman Obituary

Elmer Wendall Bulman passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2025, at the age of 82, with his family by his side.

Born in North Rustico, Prince Edward Island, Elmer spent his early years on the family farm before his family moved west and put down roots in Calgary, a city he proudly called home for the rest of his life. From a young age, Elmer was curious about how things worked—taking apart radios, repairing his scooter, and tinkering in the garage. That steady curiosity carried him into the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he graduated at the top of his class and served as a maintenance test pilot and flight instructor. The RCAF gave him a trove of stories we loved to hear — A family favourite tells how Elmer signalled he was in town by flying low over his sister’s ranch— “scaring the women”—before landing in Calgary, signalling Elmer’s father to come pick him up at the airport. After his military service, Elmer built a career in electronics and computers. If something was broken, Elmer could fix it – sometimes using a hammer, protractor, oscilloscope and a potentiometer on the same project.

Elmer is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Gail; his children, Kim (Ted) and Joe (Izabela); and his four adored grandchildren who knew him as Grampy: Myles, Saige, Rilee and Natalee. He is also survived by his sisters, Mabel (Nestor), Miriam (Dave, dec.) and Diane (Pete); and the families of his wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at the Rockyview General Hospital, including the MAiD team, whose gentle guidance and kindness meant so much.
