Doreen Edna (Walster) Thompson, 75 passed away peacefully on her birthday, March 15, 2024, after a 15-year battle with dementia. Doreen and Dale married in December of 1969 in Toronto and very shortly after the birth of their first daughter in 1972, made Calgary their home, having their second daughter in 1973.

Before dementia, Doreen loved to go for walks and take care of her four grandchildren at various points in their pre-school years. In 2014 she was able to enjoy a cruise in the Caribbean with Dale, both daughters (and partners), and all her grandkids!

Survived by her husband of 54 years, Dale; daughter, Katherine Medina (Shane) and their 3 children Shylo, Artemis and Madysun; daughter, Cindy (Mike) Betteridge and their daughter Alicia. She also has four siblings she is survived by, Diane Clark, Katie (Bob) Kwapis, Ken Horne, and Barry Edwards; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doreen is predeceased by seven siblings, David Walster (1969), Evelyn (Walster) Herman (2005), Donna (Walster) Bryce, (2011) Willy Walster (2016), George Walster (2015), James (Jimmy) Walster (2016), and Ralph Walster (2019).

The family is planning a small and private farewell for Doreen. There will be no other service or celebration of life.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, caregivers and staff at The Brenda Strafford Clifton Manor in Calgary for their constant dedication to her care and support in her final days.
