Donald Robert Glosser passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 98.99 years.
Known to his family as Dad, Grandpa, Opa and Uncle, he managed to outlive all those that called him friend. He is survived by his daughter Donaleen Glosser; sons Neil and Kevin Glosser; four Granddaughters, one grandson, three great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 70 years, Grace (Pickard).
Donald lived a long healthy life marked by hard work, humour, a deep love for people and potatoes. He began farming in North Portal, Saskatchewan, a time he spoke about often in his later years, fondly remembering the neighbouring farms and the life he loved. After moving to Hanna and later Penhold, he became a travelling salesman for Wear Ever pots and pans, earning recognition as a top salesman in Southern Alberta and proudly running a booth at the Calgary Stampede each year.
He later worked in construction on the Trans-Canada Highway and then as a milkman for Model Dairies, where he managed one of the largest routes serving Forest Lawn and Albert Park. He finished his working years as a caretaker with the Calgary School Board, where students and teachers knew and appreciated him as the friendly and hardworking “Mr. Glosser”. Donald hated how wasteful some kids were and he wasn’t shy to bring home a discarded brown bag lunch for snacking.
Donald had many simple joys. He loved gardening shirtless and took great pride in working on his tan. He was an avid curler from a young age, starting on frozen ponds in Saskatchewan and later spending many happy years at the Calgary Curling Club, attending bonspiels and cheering on his children across Alberta alongside his wife, Grace. He also developed a taste later in life for a good cold beer splashed with tomato juice.
He was well known for his legendary appetite, his enjoyment of the casino, and his unwavering commitment to recycling — actually it was the 5 cents he was after, even stopping traffic without hesitation if he spotted a can on the side of the road. These quirky habits brought him great joy and many smiles to those around him.
Donald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, friendly nature, quiet humour, and a long life worth living and remembering.
Donald’s ashes will be scattered with Grace and a celebration of life will be held in late March, 2026.
