Sadly, our beloved Diane Brown, 69, of Calgary, AB, passed away on June 5, 2025. She suffered a cardiac arrest while on her bucket list road trip down the west coast where she got to see the Redwoods.
Born on October 2, 1955, in Tofield, AB to Mildred and William Dueck, Diane was the youngest of five. Unfortunately, her father passed away when she was a baby. Robert Rokos then entered her family’s life, becoming the man she would forever know as her dad. Mildred and Robert had another three children, rounding the family out to ten.
Diane grew up in Ryley, AB, a small town forty-five minutes east of Edmonton, and after spending her childhood and adolescence in a tiny house with lots of people, Diane spread her wings and moved to Medicine Hat to live with her sister. She met the love of her life there, Wayne, who irritated her by asking for milkshakes at the diner where she worked—something she grumbled about making. It wasn’t enough to stop her from falling in love with him, however, and soon after she moved to Calgary, AB to be with him.
The two got married in May of 1976, and enjoyed three blissful years of marriage before they had a golden child, OJ, in 1979. He was the apple of Diane’s eye for six and a half years until the platinum child, Tamara, came into the picture in 1985, and they both became part of her heart.
Diane was welcomed home (predeceased) by her father, William; dad, Robert; mother, Mildred; sisters Lorna and Cindi; and grand-puppy, Brook. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; son, OJ; daughter, Tamara; grandsons, Jaxon, Bohdan, Koda, and Knox; grand-puppy, River; sister, Val; brothers Bobby (Valeria), Rick (Judy), Tim (Deborah), Neil (Carol); sister-in-law, Lynn (Dave). Diane leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as an abundance of other relatives and friends who adored absolutely her.
In her youth she played basketball, volleyball, baseball, and carried on playing some of those sports well into adulthood. She loved the Toronto Blue Jays and will no doubt be cheering for them from beyond. She played golf every week during the summer, and enjoyed watching curling during the winter. Diane always had a smile, and would welcome anyone to the dinner table. She will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held in September. More details to follow.
