Deb became an angel on March 18, 2020 at the Foothills Country Hospice after fighting a brave three-year battle with cancer. Deb enjoyed the company of her family and friends, and ultimately said goodbye to those she loved when she chose to end her suffering on her own terms.
Deb passed in the presence of her three cherished children, sons Carson and Mason, and beloved daughter Chaney (with whom she shared a never-ending love of horses). Her two best friends, Wendy and Lucy, were also with her holding hands at the end. She shared many memories, stories, laughs, and the occasional bottle of wine with her dear Wendy and Lucy. Numerous close friends also waited outside to say goodbye.
Of course, we cannot forget her beloved four-legged companion “Bunny.” Deb had an immense love for animals and was lucky enough to have a career surrounded by them. She loved helping others understand various ailments and injuries. This career took her from various animal clinics, hospitals, and finally the University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, where she worked as a professional skills facilitator until the cancer took its toll.
Deb was predeceased by her father Jim Burroughs and stepfather Jim Woods.
She is survived by her husband Bill Mowat, mother Edith Woods, brothers David (Wendy) and Robert Burroughs, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Foothills Country Hospice Society in Okotoks, Alberta. They made Debi’s last days comfortable.
