It is with heavy hearts that the Paxton children announce the peaceful passing of their mother, Dawn Paxton (Odell), after succumbing to a tough battle with cancer on April 20, 2022, in Calgary, Alberta, surrounded by her family.
Born on December 14, 1951, in Carstairs, Dawn is survived by her children, Leeland Paxton (Britnie Potter), Riley Paxton (Dana), Torquil Paxton (Chandler Gilmet), and Willow Singer (Owen), grandchildren Bridger Paxton and Raizel Singer, and her former husband Phil Paxton. Dawn is also survived by her siblings, Dan Odell (Brenda), Pat Hager (Don), and Ruth Edge (Lyle). She leaves behind many close friends whom she enjoyed dearly.
Dawn took no greater pride and accomplishment than in her children. She was a gentle and kind mother who gave her family unconditional love and support. Full of joy and happiness, she was always smiling and had a contagious laugh that made those around her feel loved and welcome. Dawn could bring the whole family together with her amazing cooking and grand meals, with many warm memories shared by everyone gathered around the dinner table. She had a thirst for travel - from traveling with her family around the world, to winters spent with friends and family in her home in La Paz, Mexico. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and friends who became like her family. Dawn loved to read and sit down with a good book and glass of wine.
Dawn will be remembered for wearing her heart on her sleeve, and colourful outfits that matched her bubbly personality. She was the rock of her family, with her door always open, and she was never more than a phone call away. Dawn was truly an example of strength and resilience.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the compassionate and kind nurses, doctors, and staff, at Foothills Hospital.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Millarville Racetrack (306097 192 Street West, Millarville, AB) from 1:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In true Dawn fashion, her wishes asked that those attending avoid wearing black.
