Lynne passed away on September 24, 2025 after living with ovarian cancer for the past three years.
Lynne was born in Calgary in 1951 to parents Ralph and Sadie Schonert. Along with her younger sister, Lorie, the family moved around Canada throughout her childhood, living in Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and Toronto. Lynne participated in track and field and won competitions with her floor routine as a gymnast. Lynne remembers getting glasses in grade 3, and her mother commented on how nice they looked on her. Lynne never took those glasses off! Many memories were made at Pigeon Lake with extended family. Lynne shared stories of the shock moving to the large schools in Toronto compared to the small schools of Regina.
After High School, Lynne worked for Air Canada and has fond memories of traveling with her colleagues. She was married in 1971 and moved to Calgary in 1973. Calgary is where Lynne raised her family. Marcus was born in 1978, and Blake was born in 1983. One of Lynne’s greatest gifts in life was to be able to stay home and raise her children. Many memories were made in Lake Bonavista before they moved to Cedarbrae. Lynne was most proud of her boys. Marc and Catherine currently reside in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Blake and Courtney live in Calgary.
When the boys were older, Lynne worked at Melanie’s Petites in Willow Park, a Medical Supplies store, and as a nanny. She also completed a Diploma in Social Work in 1994. She always talked about how she wished she had studied nursing, but math wasn’t her strongest subject! Lynne loved to travel. Most recently, she enjoyed the buffets and endless entertainment on cruise ships.
Lynne was thrilled to become a grandmother to Blake’s daughters, Raya (2019) and Remy (2021). After raising two boys, she felt the universe made it even by giving her two granddaughters! She loved holding them, reading to them, and buying everything “girly” that she could find at the local thrift shops!
Lynne’s cats were like family to her and provided her with unconditional companionship over the years. Mitzy, Tippy, Tiger, Ruby, Bert, and Speed were all important family members throughout her life.
A special thank you to Joan, Josephine, Penny, Glenn, Urooj and Aliza, and all friends and neighbors who provided companionship and care for Lynne for many years. Lynne wanted you to know that she knew how expensive the Lindt Lindor chocolates were, and she never took that for granted! Thank you to the Home Care caregivers who happily did the “extras;” Lynne enjoyed her smoothies! Thank you to Dr. Cameron and the oncology team for guiding us through this journey. Thank you to the AgeCare McKenzie Towne staff for caring for her for the past eight months.
A private gathering will be held to celebrate Lynne’s life.
A note from Blake and Marc: “Mom - Thank you for the enduring love despite the many challenges and sacrifices presented. Thank you for teaching us about strength through perseverance and healing through hardship. Thank you for being our mom and grandma. We love you and will miss you.”
