Claude Chepil Obituary

Claude Carl Chepil passed away on January 14, 2025 after a decade long battle with dementia at the age of 85, in Calgary, Aberta.

Claude was born in Yorkton, Sk., on October 28, 1939. He was raised in Rhein, Sk. and Toronto, Ont. until the age of 10 when he moved to a farm in Lenswood, Mb. From this quaint 480 sq.ft. farmhouse he attended high school in Birch River, Mb. While in his high school days he enjoyed dancing (the jive!), curling, and the drama club. Being very social, he always had a ton of good friends who he kept in touch with most of his life.

He graduated from teacher’s college in Winnipeg then taught school in Lenswood, and Hnausa, Mb. In 1967 he moved to Lynn Lake, Mb. and worked for Sherritt Gordon Mines in the assay office for many years. There he met and married (1970) his beautiful wife Diane Stamen, and together they welcomed daughter Lisa (1973) and son Garrett (1977). While in Lynn Lake, he loved houseboating, water skiing, curling, photography and being a handy man around the house. With his family, he moved to Terrace, BC in 1990 where he ran a paint and wallpaper store until his retirement. Claude was known as a constant jokester and enjoyed keeping everyone on their toes.

In Sept. 2014 Claude moved to Calgary, Ab. to be closer to his children and sister. In May, 2015 his life in care facilities began. Some of that time he really enjoyed using his motorized scooter and was out most days until he very reluctantly handed over the keys.

Claude was predeceased by his wife Diane (2014), Father John Chepil (2002) Mother Johanne (Jessie) 2004, Grandchildren Jordan Orchard, Trie and Scott. He is survived by daughters Lona Orchard and Lisa (Ian Sparks) Chepil, son Garrett Chepil, grandchildren Jaryd (Leah) Orchard, Jessica Orchard, Chadd (Kayla) Orchard, Chea (Nik) Proulx, Logan Orchard and Lynnea Sparks, Great Grandchildren Kinsleigh, Ryann, Amiyia, Knightly, Kennedy, Noble, Wilder, Theo and Heston and his sister Johanne (Jo) Laird.

At his request, there will be no formal service. His ashes will be buried at the Riverview Cemetery Kamsask. Sk, next to his parents in the summer of 2025.
