Chris McCormack of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, at the age of 73 years, surrounded by his family and his favourite music.
I guess it wasn’t just heartburn.
He was born in Ireland in 1951 to parents Micheal and Eileen and was the oldest of six siblings. They moved to Canada in 1953, where they settled in Calgary, AB. He remained here his whole life, although he never lost his Irish roots.
Chris followed in his father’s footsteps, spending his entire career industrial chalking. In fact, he worked on some of the most well-known buildings, like the Saddledome.
Chris enjoyed watching any type of sports, with a fondness of football and golf. His favourite sport to play was golf, the hotter the day, the better. He loved vacationing with his family anywhere the sun was shining, but most especially Maui. One year in the 70s, he traveled to Maui twenty times. Putting his feet in the sand, cheering for the Miami Dolphins and a cold beer after work, were a few of his favourite things.
Chris was a stubborn man with a gigantic heart. He loved the people close to him in his life and would do anything for them. He was the center of our family gatherings, and the chef of holiday dinners. He was the person who people wanted to be around. He could make you laugh and rile you up, in the same conversation. He would be there if you needed him and was always up for a good time.
He will always be remembered for his ‘grumpy' hat, his moustache, his slippers, his supply of shortbread cookies, Rainier beer, ice cream cones for the grandkids, his inappropriate jokes, cheese sandwiches and his love of Rod Stewart.
He is survived by his loving wife Kimberley; they have been together for 35 years. They raised four children together: his son, Danny (Jess); daughters, Nicole (Greg), Caity (Peter), Skyelar (Gus): and four grandchildren, who brought him so much joy, Christopher (Nicole), Hudson and Frankie (Caity and Peter) and Freya (Danny and Jess).
We will miss you dearly, but to find some comfort in sorrow, he had no regrets, and in his words, “I did it my way”.
