Charles "Charlie" Humphreys Jr. Obituary

Charlie, the oldest of seven children, was born on April 10, 1934 in Pointe St. Charles, Quebec to Charles Stuart Humphreys Sr. and Caroline Humphreys (Dorman).  He decided early in his life that he wasn’t interested in an academic career so he started working in the trucking industry when he was just 13 and enjoyed this way of life right up until his 60’s. This was a source of many of the stories relayed to us while we were working on cars, travelling, camping or just enjoying his time with all of us when he wasn’t working or on the road.

During the early years Charlie met Margaret Eliza Mercier on his travels. They were married November 22, 1957, and over their 64 years together raised six children: three girls for him and three boys for her.  Then when it came time to retire, Charlie and Margaret headed out west on June 24, 1992. Within a couple of years all the children and their families followed so the whole family was back together again.

So it is with profound sadness that we announce his passing on June 27, 2021, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Charlie is predeceased by his parents, his brother Clifford and his brother Jack’s wife Helen. He is survived by Clifford’s wife Marlene; his brothers Jack and Eddie (Nicole); sisters Colleen (Robert), Carolyn (Paul), and baby sister Patti; as well as the many nieces and nephews and their families; his wife Margaret; his children: Carmen (Randy), Gail (Doug), Darla, Stuart, David (Debbie) and Robert; along with 11 grandchildren and their spouses, and 10 great grandchildren (with one more due in August).

Charlie has left quite a legacy that will live on. He will be remembered with great respect and held dear to our hearts.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the staff in Unit 42 of the Peter Lougheed Hospital for their compassionate care of Charlie in his final days. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society in Charlie’s memory would be appreciated.
