It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden death of Brenden Sheppard Buchanan on Sunday, April 26th, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 35.
He leaves behind his dad, Trevor Buchanan, mom, Marcy Sheehan, stepdad Tom Sheehan, his grandfather Richard Sheppard, his half-sister Morgan Kane-Buchanan, his great aunt Sylvia Segal, his great uncle, Allan Sheppard and his best friend Bryan Taylor.
He was predeceased by his grandmother Shirley Buchanan (2023), his grandfather Michael Buchanan (2016), Grandmother Judy Sheppard (2018), his step-grandfather Murray Wilson (2013) and his aunt Heather Dutchak (2025).
Brenden received a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis as a young child and met the condition with strength, even as kidney disease was added to his health challenges in 2020. Throughout everything, he navigated significant physical and mental hardships. May he find eternal peace.
No more mental shadows,
No more physical pain,
You are flying free now,
In the gentle rain.
Safe in perfect peace,
Rest now, our dear son,
Your battle is finally over,
Your victory is won.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors of Unit 27 Hemodialysis at Foothills Hospital for the care and support they provided Brenden.
As per the family’s request, no funeral service will be held.
If family and friends so desire, donations can be made in memory of Brenden to Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
