With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Louise Schmunk on July 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was 68 years old.
Born in Barrie, Ontario, on August 23, 1956, Betty moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1973 at the age of 17, where she built a life rooted in love, strength, and quiet determination. She was a woman of deep compassion and care, who devoted her life to her family and those she loved.
Betty was known for her nurturing spirit, resilient strength, and gentle kindness. She faced life’s challenges with grace and perseverance, and her presence brought comfort and steadiness to all who knew her. She found her greatest joy in the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Betty is survived by her loving partner Wela, her sister Dorothy, her brother Stuart (Sue), her son Jason (Sarah), her daughter Kristin (Dennis), and her stepchildren Arlene (Sarah) and Aaron (Andreea). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Cache, Xander, Damyn, Brixlee, Tenley, Ryker, Everleigh, Eli, Amni, Reva, and Lieren. Betty also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews in Ontario, and her dear friends of over 40 years , Louise and Linda, all of whom she held close in her heart.
She is predeceased by her beloved mother Vera, her brothers Robert, Jack, Roy, and Warren, and her sisters Pam and Nancy.
Betty’s legacy is one of unwavering love, fierce courage, and deep compassion. Her strength inspired those around her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on August 14, 2025, at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services North. Located at 3625 12th Street NE Calgary AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Cancer Society of Canada or Agape Hospice, whose doctors, nurses, and staff provided Betty with such compassionate care in her final days.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
