Beatrice Doreen Marlatt (nee Stahl), 90 years old, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on January 14, 2025. She was born on November 22, 1934, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to Ida and John Stahl.
Beatrice was a person of many dimensions. Though life brought her many challenges, she had moments of kindness, resilience, and a unique perspective on the world. Her story reminds us of the complexity of the human experience and the importance of compassion.
Some of our fondest memories of her are from our childhood, watching her lovingly hang clothes on the line as the breeze carried the fresh scent of laundry through the air. She had a knack for preserving the simple joys of life, like teaching us how to can jelly and pickles—a skill she passed down with patience and care. We always knew she was having a good day with her illness when the comforting smell of cookies baking filled the house.
She always held all her grandchildren close to her heart, whether she had a relationship with them or not. Her love for them was steadfast and unwavering, even when life created distance.
She is survived by her children, David Marlatt (Wanda), Nadine Marlatt, and Maureen English (Jeffery); her grandchildren, Madison English (Omari), Kennedy English (Ron), Charity Mitchell (Logan), Rhys Marlatt, Chantelle Marlatt (Andrew), Pierce English, Austrey (Abigail) Marlatt, and Mnason Marlatt; and her great-grandchild Arden Fraser.
In her memory, her family encourages others to support mental health initiatives and extend understanding to those struggling with illness. In place of flowers please donate to the Canadian Mental Health Association https://alberta.cmha.ca/donate/
