Barry Rogerson Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barry Alan Rogerson on March 22, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. Barry passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 79. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, on April 9, 1945, Barry spent his life dedicated to education, family, and community. Barry is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sharon Rogerson; his daughter Tara (Tom) Musk; and son Brock (Nicole) Rogerson. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cael and Zavier (Musk) and Bryant and Blake (Rogerson). Barry also leaves behind his brothers, Brian (Nancy) Rogerson and Gord (Heather) Rogerson. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Alan Rogerson, and his sisters, Betty Martin and Gail Rogerson.

Throughout his life, Barry had many passions. From his early love of golf, hockey, and baseball to his later years playing horseshoes and bridge, Barry found joy in both the competition and the friendships these activities brought. Barry loved music and dancing. He and Sharon were frequently the centre of attention at weddings, parties, and other gatherings. Whether it was jiving, swinging, two-stepping, or polka, the lights would turn to them as they hustled and swung to the music of their youth. And he was a passionate gardener. He transformed his domestic foothills landscape into a spectacle that drew the admiration of his neighbours and passersby. But more than anything, Barry was there for others because he was a man of integrity. Whether it was the passionate investment he put into his family’s activities, the meaningful relationships he built with his students over a varied and extended education career, or the playful exchanges with acquaintances at his many haunts, Barry's small-town, human-oriented roots were always on full display. Barry was the man who shoveled his neighbours’ driveways, the man who aided a stranded driver on the side of the road, and the first man to help a friend move. His presence will be deeply missed.

Barry’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Barry’s memory to a charity of your choice. Barry’s legacy of kindness, conversation, and quiet strength will live on in the many lives he touched.
