Barbara (Amthor) Ryan

We are sad to share the news of the passing of Barbara Ryan (Amthor). She passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025 at the age of 84. She was pre-deceased by her husband James Ryan, January 2024. Barbara was born in Prestwich, Lancashire UK in 1940 to Edna and Robert Hussey. She attended nursing school in the UK and made the brave decision to come to Canada where she continued her nursing career through out her entire life. Finally ending up in Calgary where she worked at the Foothills Hospital until her retirement.

She had a passion for gardening, and always had the most glorious gardens and flower baskets wherever she took up residence. She found her place of true peace at Lake Louise, this to her was the most beautiful place on earth and would frequent here quite often with her kids in tow when they were young to appreciate the beauty.

Barbara was a devoted loving single mother, always working hard to ensure her children had what they needed and took their needs before her own most times. She got to spread the love to her 2 grandchildren during her retirement which brought her such joy and fulfillment, would happily watch over them, take them on outings to the park or adventures on the bus to wander around Devonian Gardens downtown.

Barbara is survived by her two children Justin and Cindy, her two grandchildren, Trinity and Liam and her beloved dog Peppi. Peter, her brother passed away September 2024, she is remembered by his children Blaine and Dale and his children Kieran and Niall.
