It is with profound sorrow that I announce the sudden passing of Audrey Alice Gothreau (formerly Peterson, formerly Mackenzie) in Calgary on October 22, 2025, the day before her 76th birthday. She was the loving wife of Michael Gothreau and stepmother to Laura. She was predeceased by her sister, Jocelyn Kittle, and by her parents, Rita and Gordon Mackenzie. She leaves behind a large family, including siblings Deborah, Cedric, Rodney (Marie), Sydney (Kathy), Anthony, Randy (Debbie), Jacky (Dave) and Rhonda (Joe).
Also nephews and nieces Chris, Curtis, Cory, Charlene, Jim, Gordon, Jennifer, Alex, Anna, Axel, Charity, Chad, Mathew, Ryan, Jordan, Ashton, Cole, Cassie, Cheyenne; great nephews and nieces Rylan, Leighton, Colby, Brynn, Quinn, Cali, Emma, Bennett, Livia, Silviu, Riker, Autumn, Sierra, Kierra, Gage and Marshall; great great nephew Mateo; and her informally adopted nephew Clinton Matheson.
She will be missed by her in-laws, Bill (Britt) and Tanya (Darrell).
Audrey earned a degree in Sociology from the University of Lethbridge. At the time of her passing, she was the primary care provider for her disabled husband, Michael. She had enjoyed a varied work career that included roles in Aboriginal Affairs, cooking on a ranch, market research, and production supervision for a major reproduction company, among others.
She was her husband's number one fan. She loved going for rides in the country, watching classic movies, and was particularly fond of owls and penguins.
Audrey asked that no funeral service be held. If you wish to donate in her memory, please consider autoimmune disorders.
