Mercedes Carr was called home to be with her parents in heaven on December 1, 2025, at one hundred and one years old.
Mercedes is predeceased by her husband Leon Carr, her parents, and many of her siblings. She is survived by her remaining sisters Judith Quintana and Cecilia Henkes, and many nieces and nephews and their children as well.
Mercedes was lovingly known as Grandma Carr and Ita Carr from her great nieces and nephews and their children. She was always excited to see and be with the kids, and to spoil them with candy and treats.
Mercedes was born and grew up in Bogotá, Colombia. She moved to the USA in 1960 where she married her late husband Leon and lived in North Platte, Nebraska until 1990 when she relocated to Canmore to be with her family in Canada. She still has many remaining relatives Colombia.
Mercedes was a well-known artist in Canmore, Alberta, painting the mountains and surrounding area in a beautiful oil painting medium. She was passionate about art, and was a member of the Artist Guild within Canmore. She painted porcelain by hand with her beautiful calligraphy, keeping her alive within her art.
Mercedes was also an active member and volunteer at The Shrine Church of Our Lady of The Rockies in Canmore.
Mercedes will be missed by many, but we are comforted knowing she is at peace in the arms of God.
Funeral Mass will be held on December 20, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Community (800-85 Street SW, Calgary, AB).
