Alistair Taylor Obituary

Alistair Taylor, known to his Scottish family as Aly, to his Canadian friends as Al, and to his loved ones simply as Dad, Grandpa, or Great-Grandpa, was born in Mintlaw, Scotland, in 1935 to Robert and Jeanie Taylor.

Al was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Isabelle. He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Taylor; his son, Mike Taylor, and his wife, Michelle; his granddaughter, Samantha Hewlett (née Taylor), and her husband, Ryan; and his cherished great-grandchildren—Eli, Ireland, and Charlie.

A colourful character with a story for every occasion, Al loved to share memories of his time serving overseas, working in construction, and celebrating life with the many dear friends he made along the way. He was deeply proud of his Scottish roots and equally proud to call Calgary home.

Following his national service in the Middle East, Al developed a passion for travel. In 1961, he and Isabelle immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, where he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in construction. Together they raised their children, Sheila and Mike, and settled into a welcoming home in Cedarbrae where they lived for over 50 years, surrounded by a community they loved.

Al treasured his visits back to Scotland, doted on his granddaughter Samantha, and came to admire Ryan deeply. Nothing, however, delighted him more than his three great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

He will be remembered with love, laughter, and lasting stories. He will be deeply missed.
