Alan Weir Obituary

Alan (Al) Weir passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Al is lovingly remembered by his two children, Debra Stafford and Grant (Jeanette) Weir; and his five grandchildren, Christopher Kulba, Kristina Jakeman, Randall Weir, Andy Weir, and Bryce Jakeman. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 48 years, Christina Weir, and his sons-in-law, Daniel Kulba and Gavin Stafford.

Born on September 26, 1931, in Montreal, Quebec, Al grew up alongside his sister and carried the values of hard work and family throughout his life. He dedicated 36 years to The Bell Telephone Company, starting as a linesman and later working as a splicer. His commitment and long hours were a testament to his devotion to supporting his family.

After retiring in 1984, Al and Christina moved to Calgary to be closer to their children. Retirement didn’t slow him down, Al poured his energy into volunteering for organizations such as Cystic Fibrosis Canada, the Veterans Food Bank, South Health Campus, and the Cancer Society. Known for his storytelling and adventurous spirit, Al was always ready to lend a hand, often with his trusty toolbelt close by.

Al had a passion for driving and motorcycles, embarking on countless adventures, including a memorable cross-Canada trip at the age of 84. Above all, family was his greatest joy. Affectionately known as “Gramps,” not only to his grandchildren but to many who loved him, Al will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and zest for life.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, volunteerism, and unforgettable stories, along with his famous saying “Bear with me”. A celebration of life will be held in early January 2026.
